The Spanish government has donated 4.4 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to the State Government to contain the spread of Coronavirus.
This is contained in the ambassador’s statement entitled “No one will be safe until we are all safe” in Abuja on Wednesday.
A statement from the Spanish Consulate in Nigeria stated that the donation was accompanied by unconditional protection of fair, equitable, and universal access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
The organization also revealed that the immunization event took place on the premises of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), with the support of UNICEF.
The statement said, “With this donation, Spain stands out as the third donor of COVID vaccines to Nigeria. It is the largest donation Spain has done to a single country in Africa so far. Furthermore, these figures place Spain as the seventh-largest donor of vaccines in the world, with 70 million doses already delivered.
“Spain is fully committed to multilateral efforts. Consequently, this donation and more than 90 percent of Spanish donations have been made through the COVAX mechanism.”

“In addition, the ambassador noted that the donation covers one act of the European group in Nigeria, comprising the European Union and its member states.”
The ambassador said at the handover ceremony, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, Chief Executive Officer of the NPCDA urged Nigerian citizens to ensure they receive the jersey.
The ambassador also said that the Spanish Ambassador, Juan Sell, had emphasized the importance of reaching out to all Nigerians and to all corners of the globe if the epidemic were to end.
We need to strengthen basic health systems and we must develop global technology transfer systems to diversify the production of health products in all regions, especially in Africa.
“With that in mind, the President of the Spanish government announced at the recent Global Summit against COVID-19 that Spain will donate $ 300 million to achieve another 30 million COVID-19 goals and to strengthen public health programs.
This will be done “through projects related to COVID-19, which will be used by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.
“Spain has also joined the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Technology Access Group and is part of Team Europe ‘s production and access program for vaccines presented by the EU Ambassador to Nigeria.
The initiative will help create an enabling environment for the development of home vaccines in Africa and address barriers on both sides of supply and demand, funded by 1 billion euros in the EU budget and European development finance institutions such as the European Investment Bank (EIB). ”
In total, EU and EU countries have donated 30m vaccines to Nigeria so far.
