Protesting APC supporters demand consensus ticket for Jonathan

Supporters of former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday stormed the office of national secretary of the All Progressives Congress demanding that the party nominate him for the APC presidential election.

During the celebrations and dances outside the secretary’s office, a number of protesters displayed a number of posters and placards that read ‘Goodluck on your mandate stand’, ‘Nigeria needs Jonathan’.

The party, which came out under the aegis of the Goodluck Nigeria Ambassadors also called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (back), and the party leadership led by Abdullah Adamu to accept the former president as a candidate for the APC agreement.

One of the GNA co-ordinators, Mar Wanda from Gombe State, told a reporter that the country needed Jonathan to direct his case, especially at this critical time.

He said, “We call on the president of Nigeria and the national executive committee under the auspices of Senator Dr. Abdullahi Adamu to welcome Goodluck Jonathan as a candidate for the by-elections for the betterment of the country.

“We have seen what he did six years ago when he was in charge of local affairs. We need him very much. We need him at this crucial time because Nigeria needs to unite. I believe he is the only person who will unite this country to take us to the promised land where we should be and where we should be in this country. ”

The development comes after it was denied that the presidency was planning a plan to ‘focus’ Jonathan on the party.

This is according to the APC National Vice-Chairman (North West), Mallam Salihu Lukman, who has announced that the former deputy governor of Bayelsa is not a member of the APC card.

Jonathan himself had rejected the APC’s offer of interest and nomination forms for a presidential ticket purchased for Fulani and Almajiri communities.

He was also absent during the screening of all 23 presidential candidates three days ago at the Transcorp Hilton gym.
