Twenty-three years later, Nottingham Forest will now play Premier League football following a narrow victory over Huddersfield Town in the Championship final – a £ 170m victory – at Wembley on Sunday, May 29.
Nottingham Forest’s promotion back to the Premier League is like a great change for their season, starting with six of seven defeats. In the second half of the season, club football got much better and earned them a place in the playoffs.
They were not at their best when they first appeared at Wembley in 30 years but a great moment of the game harvested them before the break.
Impressive James Garner, on loan from Manchester United, hit a dangerous ball into the left corner and Town defender Colwill could only deflect past the ball past his goalkeeper Lee Nicholls under pressure from Ryan Yates.
Forest’s golden age came under renowned manager Brian Clough, who led them to the English title in 1978 and won the European Cup in 1979 and 1980.
After knocking out Arsenal and Leicester in the FA Cup this season before a slight defeat by Liverpool, the sleeping Forest giants finally woke up.
