The former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, has been arrested and detained by the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC) on suspicion of continuing the organisation’s ongoing investigation into the N84bn fraud involving Accountant-General of the Federation, suspended Ahmed Idris.
Yari was reportedly arrested on Sunday, May 29, where he lived in Abuja a few hours after winning an All Progressives Congress ticket in the Zamfara West senate election.
The EFCC alleges that the former governor benefited from a total of N22 billion in N84 billion suspended AGF accused of defrauding him.
The bulk of the money was allegedly paid to one Akindele, who will not be identified
Yari allegedly received the large sum of money through Finex Professional but details of the transaction were not disclosed at the time of submitting the report.
An official of the commission, who did not want to be named because he was not authorized to speak to the media, told Punch, “On May 29, the EFCC arrested the former governor of Zamfara State, Yari, and Anthony Yaro, chairman and executive director of Finex Professional for their alleged role in N84bn fraud. -Accountant General of the Federation.
“Yari, who was picked up at 5pm, allegedly received N22bn in cash from Finex Professional, from N84bn when the previous AGF paid one Akindele.” said the source

This comes a few days after the disputed AGF was placed in the custody of the EFCC. He is facing an investigation into allegations of corruption amounting to N80 billion.
