Avoid Kaduna highway for now, security group urges travellers

A number of people were reportedly abducted on Tuesday after pedestrians on the Kaduna-Birnin-Gwari road in Kaduna State, were attacked by robbers.

During a raid on a highway, eight vehicles were set ablaze.

Following this, the Chairman of Birnin Gwari Vanguards for Security and Good Governance, Ibrahim Nagwari, advised travelers to avoid the highway as they await the restoration of security in the area.

Nagwari, in a statement, said “there is a need for the people of Birnin-Gwari and the communities along the Kaduna-Birnin-Gwari Highway to immediately stop walking on this notorious road until the security situation improves.”

Women and children are said to have been abducted and taken to unknown places.

Nagwari said the robbers blocked the Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna Highway, arrested a number of security drivers between Kuriga and Manani, near Udawa, and took an undisclosed number of people into the bush.

Nagwari expressed fears that the gunmen had formed an alliance with the Ansaru terrorist group to declare war on Birnin-Gwari residents, adding that the government’s political will to deal with security threats was confusing.

He urged locals to stop walking on the Kaduna-Birnin-Gwari road until security was assured.

According to him, we have always been grateful for the efforts of security personnel in their love of preventing security challenges that are detrimental to the entire Birnin-Gwari area, but our people have reached a point of no return.

Nagwari added, “With this, the organization advises all our citizens to be more restrained and to obey all the laws of the land and to separate themselves from prayers asking for Allah’s intervention to deal with these terrorists and their allies in our communities.

“As such we pray for the return of our people, especially the abducted women and children.”
